I've lived most of my life in the Helsinki region, in Helsinki and the neighbouring city of Espoo. I'm a member of the so called 6%-club, a.k.a. Swedish-speaking ethnic minority in Finland and have thus participated in fi-fi-fi-finlandsvenska Swedish-speaking activities such as matriculation examination from Gymnasiet Grankulla samskola and compulsory military service in Nylands Brigad in Dragsvik, Ekenäs.
I completed my Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) at Helsinki University of Technology where I majored in Telecommunications Technology and minored in Business Strategy. Studying was very fun, especially wild partying at the students' society Teknologföreningen, where I was an active member for several years. I've also studied at the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration, mainly Spanish at their excellent language department. I then did a year of wildly exotic exchange studies in Valencia, Spain at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación, so I consider myself to be almost quadrilingual (Swedish, Finnish, English, Spanish).
I've been working for various companies doing ""computer stuff"" for ages, but have since my master's degree been working for various business units within Ericsson. I started there doing C++ programming in Finland for an ATM project that was abandoned, moved over to Stockholm, Sweden to design network signaling for Ericsson's AXD301 ATM-switch. Then decided to quit doing product development and returned to Ericsson Finland where I've been quite happy working as Systems Expert doing serviceprovider network and security consulting. This roughly translates into working with the infrastructure technologies that enable for instance the Internet to work as it does, magically moving the information on this webpage that you are looking at all across the planet if needed. The technologies that I work with include the usual alphabet soup found in IP and GPRS/UMTS networks: TCP/IP routers, ATM switches, SGSN, GGSN, Firewalls, MPLS VPN, BGP4, OSPF, IS-IS, DNS, DiffServ, Multicast, IPv6, IPsec .. The products are from Juniper Networks, Ericsson, Cisco Systems, Extreme Networks, Redback...
I am a certified Juniper JNCIE-M #218 and Cisco CCNP.
My interests include cycling, sailing and reading. I used to do a lot of traveling all over the planet before we had kids (of all seven continents only the Antarctic left unvisited, although I was pretty close during our round-the-world trip in 1998) but this as well as going to the movies and playing floorball have now been somewhat deprioritized. I also spend quite a lot of time on the Internet reading about new developments in networking and the Linux operating system (that I've been using since January 1992 when version 0.12 was released).
My complete CV is available if you contact me first.
